On Friday 21st October at 7.00pm the Chapel in the Garden will be hosting a fabulous jazz evening with
Philip Clouts and Mitch Hiller.
The Chapel is celebrating their 350 anniversary, and Philip and Mitch have kindly offered to hold this 350-fundraising concert. Their music spans a great range of jazz and popular music, much loved songs like “As Time Goes By,” songs from musicals “On the street where you live,” popular songs “Misty”, to the great classic “Georgia on my Mind.”
“The Chapel is immensely grateful to these two talented musicians for donating their time and talent for a very special evening in our lovely Chapel, whose acoustics are superb. We had the pleasure of hearing Mitch sing at his recent wedding and so we know we are in for a treat.” enthused Margie Barbour, part of the Chapel’s Fundraising team.
Singer, songwriter, musician Mitch Hiller comes from a musical family. His dad wrote songs for artists such as Kenny Lynch and his uncle wrote the Eurovision Song Contest winner “Save All Your Kisses For Me”. Mitch has worked with artists as varied as Elaine Paige, Chaka Kahn and Geno Washington. He has written songs which have charted in various countries. Bridport jazz lovers have enjoyed Philip Clouts’ monthly evenings at the Bridport Arts Centre for the past ten years. Philip’s international career has included playing at Ronnie Scott’s, large festivals such as Glastonbury and Womad, and equally in the plush and intimate surroundings of London’s Lanesborough Hotel. Jazzwise magazine has praised his ‘enjoyable, easy swinging’ playing and his CDs have received widespread critical acclaim and national airplay, including on BBC’s Jamie Cullum Show. The reviewer at the Observer newspaper wrote of Philip “Clouts has particularly subtle judgement when it comes to harmonising simple melodies, making them neither too bare nor over-elaborate.”

The Chapel in the Garden holds Unitarian Universalist services every Sunday at 11.00 am, at 49 East Street, Bridport DT6 3JX. Everyone is welcome, old and young. Dogs are welcome but there is no Dogma.
