Wareham sculptor Robert Marshall installed his Ukrainian Door Sculpture at the Chapel in the Garden on Thursday 1st May. The door, which was bombed and scorched, was transported by courier from the town of Toretsk. Robert said “I wanted to tell the plight of all the people that are suffering in Ukraine.”
Members of the Ukrainian Community, who are living in Bridport, came together at the Chapel to see the installation. They were welcomed, in classic British fashion, with cups of tea and biscuits, by members of the congregation and the Ministers Rev Elizabeth and Rev John Harley.
A photographer took photographs of a Ukrainian mother and her two children, who have sought shelter in Bridport. They conveyed the powerful emotions that are felt by the Ukrainians as the conflict in their own country stretches on and more lives are lost.
